NAVITEL® urges Navitel Navigator users to update their software in time before the global GPS outage, which will take place on the night of April 6, 2019.
The reason for the potential malfunction in the Global Positioning System is rooted in the 10-bit binary system week numbering. It takes 1024 weeks or 19.7 years to reach its limit, after which the Week Number Roll Over (WNRO) starts counting again from the beginning. The last WNRO event occurred on the night of August 21, 1999.
According to information from the U.S. Department of Energy*, the upcoming transition will take place on the night of April 6, which will result in incorrect transmission of date and time information.

NAVITEL® software developers are releasing an updated version of the navigation program that addresses the week number rollover issue. Thanks to extensive work on adapting the software algorithms, Navitel Navigator users will be able to prepare their devices in advance and ensure stable navigation. In the latest version, all elements responsible for date, time, and accuracy of position settings have been adjusted and verified. Information on speed limits and traffic cameras has been reviewed and updated.
To prevent possible GPS malfunctions, it is recommended to update your navigation device in advance. To download the Navitel Navigator update for devices running Linux and WinCE, use the free Navitel Navigator Update Center software. Detailed instructions are available on the website. Please note that the update is only available for NAVITEL® navigators.
Users of NAVITEL RE900 FULL HD can update their devices by connecting to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. To install the update, follow the instructions. NAVITEL® tablets can be updated through the device Menu (Settings > About tablet > System update).
